Being Present (FULL)
September 22nd - 27th, 2018

We are very pleased to be hosting a workshop by contemporary artists Janice Steeves and Rebecca Crowell.

Description: Our focus will be on daily response to this unique location through abstract works on paper (using water-based media and drawing materials) along with optional writing and journaling. As this is traditionally a place of pilgrimage, an open-ended (non-denominational) spiritual component will be offered,  with discussion on the connection between creativity and spirituality, information about the Camino and its history, and time for daily meditation. In the studio, the focus will be on abstract interpretation of what moves you in the surroundings, including specific exercises and presentations, as well as free working time. Each day will end with a time to share your work of the day, thoughts, and ideas. Slide presentations and personal meetings with the instructors will provide insights into how to carry your work forward once you leave. Arrive on September 21st, depart on September 28th.

Experience Level: Intermediate to advanced. In order to take full advantage of the content offered, artists who enroll should have prior experience with their chosen water-based and/or drawing media, and feel comfortable working with it independently. We will of course offer suggestions and guidance in terms of technique, as well as some specific exercises– but the focus of the class is on the interpretation of experience and not on the media itself.

Schedule: The workshop lasts 6 days, with arrival the night before and departure on the morning after (7 nights accommodation). Workshop hours are 9am to 4pm. There will be a day-long group excursion mid-week and two brief presentations run by Bertrand and Basia, the owners of the venue: one on the Camino and the second on the sacred geometry of the Rose Windows. Janice and Rebecca will teach simultaneously at times, and at other times take turns leading the class. We are limiting the group to 8 to insure plenty of one-on-one interaction.
